Focus Areas

Sustainable Livelihood

With India set to become the youngest nation in the world with the largest workforce, there exists an urgent and immediate need to provide vocational and skill-based training and development to our nation’s youth. By providing the necessary skills we will be able to propel India’s economic growth and inclusive development thereby resulting in sustainable livelihood.

In this regard, we have introduced a number of income generating programmes that continue to help the marginalised communities secure livelihood opportunities, enhance their skills and increase household income in both rural and urban India. Creating these opportunities through skill development has been both a challenge and an opportunity but we continue to equip people either by providing them with new skills or by upgrading their skills. While we focus on skills in the construction sector, we do cover other segments as well, both in the farm and non-farm sectors.

Social Infrastructure

Access to basic health services, education, information, good infrastructure, and other provisions will pave the path towards development in rural communities. Through our CSR initiatives, we want to ensure that our efforts are meeting the social development needs of the communities we work with. Our multi-faceted approach enables rural communities find their footing in a rapidly evolving world. Our initiatives in the health, sanitation, education, rural infrastructure and awareness programmes are conducted with support from the communities, local government and our partners in the corporate world.

When working in a particular region, we begin with detailed preliminary research, participatory mapping, and planning processes in partnership with the local communities, institutions and administrative councils. These studies enable us to identify various desires and express needs of the community and this forms the basis of our social development initiatives. Some of our key initiatives include:

Health & Sanitation

Impact Assessment

Dalmia Bharat Foundation

Dalmia Bharat Foundation, DBF, is a registered not-for-profit organization set up under the Income Tax Act, 1961. The Foundation was set up in 2009 to expand the programmes and projects of the Dalmia Bharat Group’s CSR division.

Dalmia Bharat Foundation operates within these key areas – Sustainable Livelihoods, Climate Action (Soil & Water Conservation), and Social Infrastructure. These programmes combine in-depth, long-term plans and strategies along with medium and short-term initiatives and campaigns. Owing to the great differences across locations, DBF has adopted a flexible, multi-intervention approach that allows programmes and people to grow together and sustain each other. The focus areas have been derived from the felt needs of the community and issues material to the business.

With this independent entity, we reaffirm our determination to be an aware and effective corporate citizen. We believe in the limitless potential of human beings and focus on community-driven, beneficiary-centric development programmes. DBF is the natural evolution of corporate social partnerships beyond CSR compliance. It is our conviction, that progress and sustainable development depend greatly on partnerships and shared values.

Flagship Program - DIKSHa

DIKSHa program, was initiated in 2016 with the vision of providing alternative livelihood opportunity for the community around us. Our mission is clear: to reach and uplift every young individual within the vicinity of our business operations. This deliberate focus not only shapes skilled individuals but also creates transformative impacts in rural communities. As these trained youth step into a world of possibilities, they become catalysts for change, generating livelihood opportunities and significantly contributing to additional household income.

DIKSHa- was initiated in partnership with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). The broad roles of Dalmia Bharat Foundation (DBF) and NSDC were integral to the development and implementation of DIKSHa. Since its inception, DIKSHa has trained over 15,000 candidates, achieving a remarkable placement rate of 73%. Operating across 20 centers in 10 states, DIKSHa has a significant presence throughout India. Currently our centers have an impressive annual training capacity of 7,200 youth, offering diverse courses across 21 trades. Additionally, DIKSHa plans to open five more centers in FY 25, further expanding its impact and increasing annual training capacity to 8000.This extensive reach and variety ensure that we cater to the unique aspirations and talents of our candidates, preparing them for a wide range of industries and career paths.

We take immense pride in the fact that 63% of our trainees are women, demonstrating our dedication to promote gender equality and empowering women to become independent and successful professionals. DIKSHa ensures a full year of post placement support to our candidates. This commitment helps our graduates navigate their new roles, overcome challenges, and continue to grow in their careers.

Our achievements would not be possible without the invaluable support of our partners such as the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), Odisha Skill Development Authority (OSDA), Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC), NABARD, Bosch, AkzoNobel, Schneider Electric, and many others. Their commitment and collaboration have been instrumental in scaling our efforts and ensuring the highest standards of training and employment opportunities.

Flagship Program - Gram Parivartan

Dalmia Bharat Foundation initiated the Gram Parivartan Project to transform rural communities by providing sustainable livelihood opportunities. The Gram Parivartan Program was launched with the aim of providing livelihoods that are economically sustainable, ecologically responsible, and socially equitable. The objective is to foster sustainable economic progress within selected communities, where the household chosen for participation is expected to achieve an additional annual income of Rs. 1,00,000. This can be achieved through individual or group interventions, functioning independently, or converging with government programs.

Through this initiative, various sectors are addressed, such as agriculture, skill development, off-farm activities, and entrepreneurship, to bolster the economic prospects of rural households. The project identifies the key challenges faced by these communities and implements strategic solutions to alleviate poverty and unemployment.

Under this initiative, the goal is to cover 61k households residing within the core villages of our plant operation across 14 locations and provide them with an additional sustainable income of Rs 1 lakh/annum.
