Sets up manufacturing plant with ₹1344 crore investment, invests in local community development
Dalmia Cement Bharat Limited (DCBL), the flagship company of the Dalmia Bharat Group, is setting up its greenfield cement plant in Yadwad village, Gokak Taluk, Belgaum district in Karnataka. Spread over 380 acres with a total capacity of 2.5 million tonnes per annum, ₹1344-crore plant will cater to the company’s customers in the region. The plant will add tremendous value to the area through employment, skill creation, socio-economic development programmes and by encouraging backward and forward linkages as well as ancillary economic activity.
“This facility will allow us to get closer to our customers in the region, and address their needs faster and more efficiently. It will augment our overall manufacturing capabilities, and expand our annual production capacity from 17 million tonnes to 21.8 million tonnes,” said a company spokesperson. To empower the local community, DCBL has been investing significantly in development programmes at Yadwad and surrounding villages through the Dalmia Bharat Group Foundation (DBGF). On February 18, DBGF organized an interactive workshop for class 10 students at G N S College, Yadwad. Almost 300 students from neighbouring villages including Kopadatti, Kamankatti, Girisagar and Yadwad attended the session where experienced professionals provided focused guidance on the best ways to prepare for the upcoming board examination.
Implemented by partners such as Dr. Reddy’s Foundation, the other programmes by DBGF focus on rural skilling, healthcare and water facilities, among others. Some of its achievement highlights include:
– More than 1000 people from around Yadwad have benefited from a series of villages had access to specialists in the field of Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, ENT, EYE, Dermatologist and general medicine and eye health camps.
– Over 600 farmers have been trained on modern agricultural technology and practices
– 30 Self Help Groups totalling 491 members have been formed and 30 women from 15 such Self Help Groups are trained in book keeping
– More than 10000 households now have potable water available due to RO plants set up in Yadwad, Manomi, Girisagar and Bharambail villages
– Drip irrigation in 5 villages in and around Yadwad has enabled proper utilisation of ground water and higher sugarcane yields.
“We recognize that an investment of this nature impacts the lives of local communities in many ways. For Dalmia, delivering on our responsibility as a corporate is not just about creating jobs but also about making a meaningful difference to lives of the larger community where ever we operate. We are therefore working closely with the people of Yadwad and its neighbouring villages, and our programs are aimed at making a positive and lasting impact.” The spokesperson added.
To set up the Belgaum plant, DCBL is working with leading consultants. In addition to Holtec Engineering which is the main engineering consultant, DCBL is working with Larsen & Toubro for electrical installation, GDCL for civil works and infrastructure, and Haji APbaba for mechanical erection, among other providers.
DCBL has cement plants in southern states of Tamil Nadu (Dalmiapuram and Ariyalur), Andhra Pradesh (Kadapa), Assam (Lanka and Umarangshu) and Meghalaya (Shillong). This will be DCBL’s seventh manufacturing plant in India.
