Dalmia Cement Bharat’s Kadapa Manufacturing Unit Bags Multiple Prestigious Awards by CII

  • Latest recognition for Water Conservation Efforts creates a ‘Hat-trick of Honours’ for AP-based unit, reaffirming its regional commitment

Kadapa, October 7, 2022: Reinforcing its regional commitment and leadership, Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Limited (DCBL), a leading Indian cement major and a subsidiary of Dalmia Bharat Limited, has received multiple awards from the nation’s reputed industry trade association, The Confederation of Indian Industry’s (CII), for its Kadapa manufacturing unit in Andhra Pradesh, as a result of its relentless efforts to reduce emissions, manage waste and enhance water positivity.

The company’s Kadapa unit won Outstanding achievements in the ‘Excellent Energy Efficient Unit’ category from CII during the Energy Leadership & Energy Excellence 2021-22 event. It also bagged the 1st prize in ‘Solid Waste Management’ competitions during the 2nd edition of CII’s SR Industrial Waste Management Competitions (Southern Region). Creating a ‘Hat-trick of Honours,’ DCBL’s Kadapa unit was conferred with the ‘Noteworthy Water Efficient Unit’ award in the category of ‘Within the Fence,’ at the CII National Award for Excellence in Water Management 2022 at an event held in New Delhi.

DCBL is adopting several unique measures in Kadapa to become water positive. These include:

  • Constructing over 304 Water Harvesting Structures such as Farm Ponds, Village Ponds, Check Dams, Gabion Structures, etc.

  • Creating a water harvesting capacity of 19.54 lakh m3 of annually, enabling 7570 small and marginal farmers to be assured of protective irrigation and an additional annual earning.

  • Treating 3338 Hectares of land under the ‘Integrated Watershed Management Project’ through various area treatment measures such as stone checks, well recharge, pebble bund, farm ponds, sunken ponds, plantation, water absorption trench, etc.

  • Creating 8289 Soil & Water Conservation project beneficiaries from 1891 families across six Gram panchayats - Nawabpeta, Talamanchipatnam, Peddakomerla, Bheemagundam, Bhuthamapuram.

  • Bringing around 450 Acres of land under Micro irrigation to conserve nearly 4 lakh m3 of water annually.

  • Enabling a 20% Increase in Crop yield & 15 % increase in income

The company’s relentless efforts of water harvesting measures in the semi-arid region of Kadapa have helped increase water availability during summers and achieve water positivity five times the plant’s annual consumption.
