Dalmia Bharat Foundation In Partnership With NABARD Introduces Climate Resilient Integrated Farming Project In Ariyalur

~400 farmers to benefit through sustainable agriculture practices~

Trichy June 13, 2024: Reiterating its commitment to climate action and sustainability, Dalmia Bharat Foundation (DBF), the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of Dalmia Bharat Ltd (DBL) in collaboration with National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has introduced a sustainable agricultural programme named “Climate Resilient Integrated Farming System” in Ariyalur, Tamil Nadu today. As climate change increasingly threatens traditional farming, this approach enhances resource efficiency and resilience in farming operations through diverse agricultural practices. By integrating various components like crops, livestock and agroforestry, it reduces vulnerability to climate impacts, promotes sustainability and ensures stable livelihoods for farmers. Under this initiative, DBF aims to establish 70 integrated farm fields over the next two years, benefiting around 400 farmers across 42 villages. The project will include on-site training, residential training at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) and exposure visits to model farms, ensuring comprehensive support for the farmers. Input materials will also be supplied to farmers, facilitating the successful adoption of integrated farming practices.

The inauguration event included a farmers’ meet with over 35 participants and marked the beginning of training programs aimed at enhancing farmers’ skills and knowledge. Present on the occasion were Mr. Prabhakaran, DDM-NABARD, Trichy, and Mr. T. Sudheer, DGM from Chennai along with DBF team members namely Mr. Charles Allwin, Sudhakaran and Muthumari.

Speaking on the significance of climate-resilient farming, Mr. T Robert, Unit Head, Ariyalur, Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Limited emphasized, “Climate change poses unprecedented challenges to agriculture, threatening food security and livelihoods. Embracing climate-resilient practices is not merely an option but a necessity for safeguarding our agricultural systems and ensuring the well-being of farming communities. By equipping them with the necessary skills and resources, our aim is to catalyze a transformation towards sustainable agriculture. This project not only supports individual farmers but also contributes to the broader global goal of climate action and sustainable development.”

“We extend our sincere thanks to NABARD for their invaluable support in making this program a success.” he further added.

Mr. T Sudheer, DGM – NABARD, shared, “We are proud to partner with Dalmia Bharat Foundation on this vital initiative. Integrated Farming Systems is a significant step towards supporting sustainable agricultural practices and enhancing rural prosperity. This collaboration exemplifies how integrated efforts can create lasting positive impacts on rural communities.”

The project aligns with DBF’s flagship Gram Parivartan Project implemented in Ariyalur’s core villages. It aims to boost rural livelihoods by increasing household income through agriculture, skill development, and entrepreneurship. By empowering farmers, women and youth with sustainable practices, it promotes economic development and enhances living standards for marginalized families in the region.
