Dalmia Bharat Foundation and NABARD organise livestock rearing programme for SHGs

Aims to encourage self-employment through establishment of micro-enterprises

Guwahati, 22nd Feb, 2023: Dalmia Bharat Foundation (DBF), the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of Dalmia Bharat Ltd. (DBL) in collaboration with NABARD Assam, kickstarted a 7-day Micro Enterprise Development Programme (MEDP) on Goat rearing for Self-Help Groups (SHG) women in Lanka from 20th Feb – 26th Feb,2023. The training focuses on upskilling SHG women on livestock rearing as a sustainable livelihood and encourage building their own micro-enterprises. Resource Veterinarians Dr. Anwar Hussain Hazarika and Dr. Arindam Garg, who are experts on this subject are leading the programme. The training over the week, will cover the key aspects of animal husbandry activities – scientific rearing of goats and the commerce of meat production. These insightful sessions are being conducted for the SHG women of Rongkhang Block at the Sports stadium at Hawaipur, West Karbi Anglong district of Assam.

Mr. Bendang Aier, District Development Manager, Karbi Anglong & Dima Hasao, was the special guest of the event. The occasion was also graced by Dr. Mridula Thakuria, DPM, Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission (ASRLM), West Karbi Anglong, Mr. Bhaskar Senapati, Regional Manager, Assam Gramin Vikas Bank (AGVB), and Mr. Prasanta Acharjee, Branch Manager, Assam AGVB, Keroni, Mr. Uday Singh Rajput, Unit Head -Lanka, Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Limited along with few officials also graced the occasion. Besides Village Headman of Hawaipur area Mr. Keshop Gohatraj also attended the inaugural programme.

Commenting on the initiative, Mr. Uday Singh Rajput, Unit Head – Lanka, DCBL said, “Livestock rearing has the potential to provide sustainable support to families in the rural areas. Women can greatly benefit from the knowledge shared during this training and turn this into a lucrative entrepreneurship venture. This project is aligned to the Government of India’s, National Livestock Mission for Entrepreneurship Development and breed improvement in poultry, sheep, goat etc. We hope through this initiative, we can encourage and promote upliftment of livelihood for the marginalized local women in the community. We are grateful to the officials of NABARD for their support to carry out this training programme successfully.”

Mr. Bendang Aier, DDM, NABARD Assam appreciated the initiative taken by DBF. It was also assured that post training, the micro enterprises will be linked to follow up activities like Bank Credit Linkages, convergence with line departments and Krishi Vigyan Kendra.

Goat farming plays a very critical role in Assam especially to the poor and marginal farmers in the rural areas because of low input, high productiveness and unprejudiced social acceptance of their

products. Apart from this DCBL has also focused on skill training for farmers, women and youth with agri-nutri garden and orchard development in the region.
