Dalmia Bharat Cement Receives The CII-ITC Sustainability Award 2013

  • Achievement highlights strong commitment to sustainability

Dalmia Bharat Cement Limited has been conferred with the prestigious CII-ITC Sustainability Award 2013 for contribution to sustainability and conservation of the environment. Dalmia Bharat Cement Limited received the “Commendation Certificate for Strong Commitment to Excel on the journey towards Sustainable Development” for the year 2013. This is the second consecutive year that Dalmia Bharat has received this award, underlining the company’s strong and intrinsic benchmarks for sustainable practices in cement manufacturing.

“It’s a huge honour for us to receive the CII ITC Sustainability Award industry once again this year,” said Mr. Gautam Dalmia, Managing Director, Dalmia Bharat Group. “Each one of us at Dalmia is conscious of our responsibility towards leaving behind a planet that is safe and can meet the need of our future generations. Businesses in particular have an important role to play here, and this recognition is a great encouragement for us.” Mr Vishal Bhardwaj, Assistant Executive Director, CSR,Dalmia Bharat Group was also honoured along with others for assisting CII as an assessor for these awards.

The assessment process followed the internationally acclaimed European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) standards and gave equal weightage to economic, environment and social dimensions of the business. It began as desk appraisal, followed by onsite assessment of the short-listed companies. The final decision lay with the jury comprising eminent personalities including Mr. Suresh Prabhu, former Union Minister and Chairman-Council of Energy, Environment and Water, the jury chair, eminent jurist, Mr. Soli Sorabji, and Ms. Sudha Murty.

The coveted CII-ITC sustainability awards were constituted by the CII-ITC Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development and have been in existence since 2006. The awards recognize India’s most sustainable companies that have been successful in embedding sustainability in their business models.
